THE CHAPTONES

One of five student-run a cappella groups at Chapman, they perform frequently on campus, around Orange County, and across the west coast! OUR STORY

Our group was created in 2014 by founder Ellie Newby and founding music director Stephanie Caress. We started out as a relatively small club at Chapman, but quickly grew to be one of the premiere student-run ensembles on campus. Since 2016, we’ve participated in the ICCA's annually, and in that time we’ve advanced to the regional semifinals four times, winning first runner-up at the 2018 West Coast Semifinal. We have also won outstanding arrangement at ICCA quarterfinals in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Apart from our competitive endeavors, we still hold strong to our original mission of being first and foremost a family to every member who spends time in our group, and are proud to uphold the legacy of what Ellie and Stephanie built.

HOW TO AUDITION

Auditions typically take place over a few days in early September. Follow our Instagram and Facebook to be the first to know when this year’s dates are announced!

In your audition, you’ll sing around a minute of a song of your choice that you feel shows off your voice. Choose something that fits your style and personality - we want to see you in your element. If you beatbox, you’ll also do a 30-second vocal percussion solo. After that, you’ll do a few quick pitch and range exercises and you’re all done! If you have any questions about the audition process, feel free to email us using the Contact page, and we’ll get back to you shortly.
